Wild Winter Wellness ~ From Surviving to Thriving

Ossipee Public Library

February 21st     11:00am-12:30 pm

Join wildcraft herbalist and author, Mj Pettengill, for a presentation on the many ways to

fortify your immune system. Prevention is vital when it comes to  navigating winter—a time of seasonal colds and flu-type illnesses. All it takes is a slight shift in our daily lives, exposure to others who are ill, lack of rest, or a diet devoid of proper nutrients for illness to emerge.

Various spices on a light marble background with herbs and chili peppers scattered around, creating a vibrant and aromatic display.
Herbal remedies, including dried spices and fresh herbs, showcases the natural remedies available both from home and in the wild.

Mj will discuss basic practices and resources available to us in the depths of winter. She will outline the health and healing practices of local Native culture, our colonial ancestors, and the long-lost hacks from the days of the Great Depression.

Recalling grandmother’s remedies and cures, it was common to reach for an onion. Basic things such as a teaspoon of honey, a handful of pine needles, or finding warmth by the fire while sipping a cup of nutritious, flavorful golden milk are allies and incredible sources of comfort.

Navigating the short days of winter can be challenging at times. But when we stay ahead of possible illnesses that lurk in many places, we can build a fortress within—we go from surviving to thriving.
