CARROLL COUNTY FARM CEMETERY c. 1870 —

Beyond the mournful numbers, lie no more grief or fear. No sad or sweet thoughts linger, for those who slumber here. —MjP ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Finding them was one thing. Identifying them was quite another. I cannot express the unanticipated relief when this occurred. I welcomed it greatly and still recall the transformation, how all that I once knew regarding my calling came into sharp focus. There is a page on my website that lists the names of the paupers and other statistical data. This is a guide for those seeking loved ones, lost branches of their family tree. I also include this list in the back pages of Book One. It is my plan to have a companion book accompanying the series, serving as a road map of the characters. During my presentations, readings, and book signings, I display a large framed poster with the names, and I have a booklet for sharing. This is part of the promise. It is about acknowledgment, not judgment. It is about knowing that these souls, and many like them, although hidden, once walked amongst us in time. Yes, they were intentionally forgotten, but they are now reclaimed. As you will discover, Abigail is the keeper of the Book of Numbered Souls. She then passes the torch along to her son. Please take a moment to acknowledge them... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The number of paupers buried at this site diminished greatly after the 1930s. The highest number recorded was approximately 75 between 1870–1880.

Though there are 298 numbered gravestones in this cemetery, the exact number, and names of everyone buried is not known, as oftentimes the paupers were buried with more than one body per grave. Therefore, it is likely that there are many more anonymous and lost souls buried in the earth here, whose names are not included. The 268 names on this list were found after extensive research.
